Today, I’d like to talk with you about Radon. What is it, how can you test for it, and what can you do if you find it?

Radon is a radioactive gas in the soil. It comes from decaying uranium and is all around us. However, when it is in the atmosphere, it is not an issue.

In the home, since radon is heavy, it can get trapped in the basement or lowest level of your home. According to the National Lung Association and the EPA, radon is the #2 cause of lung cancer.

Testing for Radon

You can buy testing kits at your local home improvement stores. Simply follow these steps:

  • Buy a kit

  • Place it in the lowest living level of your home

  • Let it sit for two days

  • Send the kit to the lab

  • Get the results in two days

If the results show radon at 4 pcil or higher, the EPA limit on radon, then you will want to remove the radon gas.

Getting Rid of Radon Gas

Thankfully, getting rid of radon gas is not a difficult process. Simply call a professionally licensed company to install a ventilation system that removes the radon out of your home.

If you use your lower levels for living, then you should get tested for radon. Feel free to call me with any questions.
